These drug trials that are being gone on around the world under the supervision of WHO is aimed at finding a combination of drugs or vaccines that can effectively treat COVID-19. Earlier India has decided to stay out of these trials due to its small sample size as fewer cases were reported in India. But now since there has been a rapid increase in the COVID-19 cases and since India has a wider sample size, India has decided to join the medicine trials conducted by the WHO.

Currently, doctors around the world are using the four primary anti-viral drugs such as
- Remdesivir – for the treatment of Ebola and Marburg
- Lopinavir and Ritonavir- for the treatment of HIV
- Chloroquine- for the treatment of malaria
The above-mentioned drugs are used either in combination or separately to treat COVID 19 cases. Talking about the vaccine, there is no such vaccine as such to treat COVID 19 because in order to make a vaccine the coronavirus has to be treated chemically and heated to decrease its strength or power and injected it into the human body. When this virus enters the body the immune system of the body detects this as a pathogen and they start producing antibodies to fight this virus.
For instance, in the case of poliovirus vaccination, the poliovirus is injected into our body in a deactivated form and once this enters the body the immune system produces antibodies to tackle this virus. So due to these limitations, the governments of many countries across the globe have put the country into a complete lockdown and thereby advising people to maintain social distancing to fight for COVID 19.
