The Pandemic Impact on IT is not as bad as feared
The Corona Virus Disease(COVID-19) first appeared in the Wuhan City of China in November 2019. Soon this virus spread in Wuhan and they isolated themselves. This virus started spreading in other parts of China. Later, it spread to the rest of the World like never before. This least-expected spread of the virus was declared a Pandemic by the World Health Organization(WHO) in March 2020.
The World Health Organization advised people to maintain proper hygiene and social distancing as preventive measures to control the spread of Coronavirus.
This caused authorities around the world to declare a lockdown to control the spread of coronavirus. Also, medical facilities differ from country to country. So, it took some time for the countries to meet the unexpected demand for all the requirements of the types of equipment, medicines, and masks.
The demand rose in such a way that the retired doctors and the medical students started working on this pandemic and contributed their service to the well-being of people.
As all the countries wanted to flatten the curve, they imposed the lockdown and all the economic activities have been paused for a while. This has led to an economic recession across the world. According to the International Monetary Fund(IMF), the global economy is expected to shrink by over 3% in 2020- the steepest slowdown since the great depression of 1930.
Countries have gradually started to unlock all the restrictions and eased economic activity. But this hasn’t solved the problem. The impact of COVID-19 can be seen in the global economy.
The travel, hospitality, and automobile industries have been impacted by COVID-19 badly. The restrictions on travel have lowered the oil demand which has made the prices fall. Demand for metals has also decreased to a great extent.
The FMCG sector was not much affected by the pandemic. The next is the IT sector which didn’t get affected by the pandemic as badly as feared.
People from the IT sector continued their services during the pandemic through digital mediums. Of course, they must have also faced some problems from the related sectors.
The I.T. companies were trading at good prices in the share market. Though the pandemic has affected the operations, it hasn’t impacted badly as expected.
The revenues of the IT firms have remained stable over this pandemic. While some of the firms have experienced a decline by a few amounts, it is becoming stable gradually.
It has been the IT services that have kept the business going so far. Whether it’s any business meetings or banking roles, the digital platforms have served very well in this time of social Distancing.
