Nvidia Introduces a New Script for Easier GeForce Now Setup on Steam Deck
Nvidia is enhancing the gaming experience on Valve’s Steam Deck by introducing a new script that simplifies the setup process for its GeForce Now cloud gaming service. This initiative aims to streamline the installation of Google Chrome and the configuration necessary to enable gamepad compatibility, making it easier for users to jump straight into cloud gaming.
The script is designed to automate several previously manual steps, such as installing Chrome via the SteamOS terminal app and setting up gamepad support in the browser. Once these steps are automated, users will find a GeForce Now shortcut conveniently placed in their Steam library, ready for action.
However, some manual adjustments are still necessary. For instance, after launching GeForce Now, users must navigate to the Steam menu, access controller settings, and select “Gamepad with Mouse Trackpad” as the Current Button Layout. This adjustment ensures the trackpad can control the mouse within GeForce Now, enhancing the user interface interaction.
Further enhancing control during gameplay, Nvidia has incorporated a streaming overlay that is accessible by long-pressing the Steam Deck’s menu button. This feature is particularly useful for navigating through GeForce Now’s interface and is essential for games like Genshin Impact, which require gamepad inputs for menu navigation.
For those who prefer using Microsoft Edge on SteamOS, Nvidia also offers manual setup instructions compatible with Chrome and Edge browsers. With these developments, Nvidia not only improves the accessibility of cloud gaming on Steam Deck but also sets a precedent for other companies, such as Microsoft, which may follow suit with similar solutions for Xbox Cloud Gaming.
