Google Maps iOS Speedometer and Speed Limit Indicators Now Available on iOS and CarPlay
Google Maps is enhancing its navigation features for iOS and CarPlay users by introducing a speedometer and speed limit indicators, TechCrunch reports. While Android users have enjoyed these features since 2019, and Waze since 2016, iPhone users can now also monitor their driving speed directly within Google Maps.
To enable these features, users need to tap their profile picture in the Google Maps app and navigate to Settings > Navigation. Scrolling down to the Map display section, users will find switches to activate the speedometer and speed limit indicators. Once enabled, the speedometer will appear in the bottom left corner of the screen. If a driver exceeds the speed limit, the speedometer will change colors as a visual reminder to slow down.
Google emphasizes on its support page that the speedometer is for “informational use only” and should not replace the car’s actual speedometer, as there may be discrepancies between the two readings. This is important to keep in mind for accurate and safe driving.
The new features were initially spotted by iPhone users in India and are expected to roll out worldwide in the coming weeks. With these updates, Google Maps aims to provide a safer driving experience for its users by helping them stay aware of their speed and adhere to speed limits.
