Tencent Launches WorkBuddy, an Out-of-the-Box AI Agent for Real-World Workflows

Tencent Launches WorkBuddy

Tencent, the global leading technology company, today unveiled Tencent WorkBuddy, an AI-native agent designed to help everyday office professionals complete complex tasks through natural language. First launched in China, WorkBuddy has become one of Tencent’s key productivity-focused AI products and is now expanding to users in more regions.

Unlike traditional AI assistants that primarily generate text or answer questions, WorkBuddy is built to execute workflows end to end. With a single prompt, the agent can ingest resources, break down tasks, call external tools, perform multi-step operations, and generate deliverable project files across work and study scenarios.

BUILT FOR EVERYONE, NOT JUST DEVELOPERS

WorkBuddy sets a new standard for user-friendliness in the AI agent space.  No deployment, configuration, or infrastructure setup is required. A growing library of built-in skills and domain-specific experts comes ready to use out of the box, allowing users to put AI to work the moment they launch the app—no prompt engineering required.

WorkBuddy reflects Tencent’s broader push into AI innovation, highlighting the company’s rapid progress across its AI product portfolio while leveraging AI to strengthen its core businesses.

KEY CAPABILITIES

Agentic Task Execution

WorkBuddy gets work done autonomously: it reads files, breaks down complex tasks, calls tools, executes operations, and delivers ready-to-use project files across coding, analysis, and productivity scenarios.

Remote Control via IM

Users can trigger WorkBuddy tasks from anywhere through Slack, Telegram, Discord, or WeChat. Start a data analysis from your phone while away from your desk; your office PC handles the work. The agent delivers outputs (PPTs, spreadsheets, research briefs) back through the same IM channel.

Connectors: Plugs Into Your Workflow

Supported by MCP, WorkBuddy connects to the tools teams already use — GitHub, GitLab, Jira, Confluence, Google Drive, Gmail, Notion, Slack, and more. Once connected, the agent can read, write, and interact with external services during task execution — no context switching required.

Skills Ecosystem & Expert Teams

The built-in Skills Gallery provides pre-configured, security-reviewed skill modules covering high-frequency productivity scenarios. Users do not need to understand underlying APIs or write prompt templates—skills are ready to use out of the box.

For more advanced workflows, WorkBuddy includes more than 100 built-in Expert roles spanning marketing, engineering, game development, and financial analysis. Each expert comes pre-loaded with domain-specific skills, prompt templates, and proven methodologies. For tasks requiring parallel specialization, Expert Teams can orchestrate multiple sub-agents—one researching, one coding, and one drafting documentation—coordinated by a lead agent.

Multi-Model Flexibility by Design

WorkBuddy supports model integration via APl keys, enabling users to connect the large language model that best fits their needs for full flexibility on cost, performance and use case.

Built With Security in Mind

WorkBuddy runs tasks in a secure sandbox by default — isolated from the rest of your system. Prefer it to work directly on your files? That’s your call. WorkBuddy can access designated local folders with your permission.
