Mobvoi Unveils TicWatch Pro 5, A Potent Challenger in the Smartwatch Market
Mobvoi, a leading innovator in the wearables sector, officially launched the TicWatch Pro 5 today. The smartwatch had been subject to much speculation following an early listing a few weeks ago. Now, with its official release, the TicWatch Pro 5 is set to offer stiff competition to market leaders like Samsung and Google, marking a significant milestone in the smartwatch industry.
One of the standout features of the TicWatch Pro 5 is its use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chip. Introduced almost a year ago, this next-gen 4nm chip is known for its potential to significantly improve power efficiency, connectivity, and performance. The TicWatch Pro 5 is the first device to integrate this chip, offering a glimpse into what the next few years of Wear OS watches might look like.
The TicWatch Pro 5 is not just about the chip, though. Its comprehensive list of features includes a dual-layer display with a 1.43″ outer low-power display that showcases vital metrics and time. The underlying OLED enhances the colors and provides a traditional Wear OS experience. The smartwatch also boasts a 628mAh battery with fast charging, 2GB RAM and 32GB storage, and connectivity options such as Bluetooth 5.2, WiFi, and NFC. It also includes GPS, a speaker and microphone, a compass, heart rate and SpO2 sensors, a skin temperature sensor, and 5ATM water resistance. All these features are encased in a 50mm 7000-series aluminum case compatible with 24mm bands.
For the first time, Mobvoi has incorporated a rotating crown with haptic feedback into their watch, enhancing user navigation through apps, volume adjustments, and zooming in and out on Maps.
Health and fitness are at the core of the TicWatch Pro 5’s design. The watch can track more than 100 workout types, provide a VO2 Max score, offer recovery time insights, and measure several health metrics with a single tap. It also offers advanced sleep tracking, including awake, REM, light and deep sleep stages, skin temperature, SpO2, and more. With 24-hour heartrate monitoring and outdoor exploration tools like a barometer, altimeter, compass, and GPS, the watch is as much a fitness companion as it is a timepiece.
While the TicWatch Pro 5 is packed with features, prospective buyers should be aware that Mobvoi has had some challenges with keeping their watches updated in the past. Only time will tell how the TicWatch Pro 5 will fare in terms of future software updates.
The TicWatch Pro 5 is available for purchase now, priced at $349, and comes in a jet black “Obsidian” colorway. Whether you’re a fitness enthusiast or a tech aficionado, the TicWatch Pro 5 is an intriguing option in the competitive smartwatch market.
