Apple’s iOS 18 Preview: New Customization, Privacy Features, and Photos App Overhaul
Apple has just released a beta version of iOS 18, offering a glimpse of the latest operating system for iPhones and other Apple devices. This new update brings exciting features like more home screen customization, improved privacy settings, and a redesigned Photos app.
The beta version of iOS 18 is now available for some users and developers to test. To try it out, sign up for the Apple Beta Software Program, go to “Settings” on your device, select “General,” and then “Software Update” to download the beta. Beta versions might have some bugs since they are still under development.
What’s New in iOS 18?
1. Home Screen Customization
- You can now move your apps around to show off your wallpaper better. Apps can be positioned at the top, sides, or bottom of the screen.
- Customize the color and shade of your app icons to match your style.
- The Control Center is now more customizable, allowing you to see and adjust your controls more efficiently.
2. Enhanced Privacy
- New privacy features let you hide certain apps when you lend your phone to others. You can lock apps or put them in a hidden folder.
- Keep your data safe and private, even when sharing your device.
3. Interactive Messaging
- Respond to texts with a wider variety of emojis and stickers.
- Schedule messages to be sent at specific times, similar to how you can schedule emails.
- Use bold, italics, strikethrough, or underline to highlight important text.
- Send messages via satellite when you don’t have wifi or cellular service.
4. Organized Inbox
The Mail app now categorizes your emails into four sections: primary inbox, transactions (like receipts), newsletters and social media updates, and promotions.
5. Redesigned Photos App
- The Photos app now shows your pictures in a single view with a grid at the top and an organized library at the bottom, sorted by themes like people, favorite memories, or trips.
- Filter out screenshots for a cleaner photo browsing experience.
iOS 18 is set to officially launch this fall, but the beta version gives users an early look at these exciting new features. Apple continues to enhance user experience with more customization, better privacy, and smarter organization tools for your devices.
