God Of War: Ragnarok – Everything We Know So Far
God of War: Ragnarok, the new edition of Santa Monica Studio’s GoW franchise is coming during the Fall of 2022. And, I’m pretty excited about it.
However, like how it’s done before, Sony Interactive has stayed quite tight-lipped before the launch of this one as well. So, in this article, I’ll compile a list of whatever I know as of now. Let’s get started with it, then.
The Release Date And Platform
The release date of God of War: Ragnarok has, indeed, been unearthed. You can buy it for the PlayStation 5 on November 9, 2022. And, at this point, Santa Monica has only dropped news about PS only. We’re yet to get any information about the PC release.
In any case, if it drops on PC, it’ll be priced like any other AAA title available out there. So, if you cannot afford it, just wait for a while after the launch. It’ll be available on a torrent site like Pirate Bay within a day or two once it’s cracked.
The Trailer
Contrary to the rest of the GoW franchise, the trailer of God of War: Ragnarok came out of nowhere. In the video, we find an older Atreus fighting toe-to-toe against new enemies with his father, the legendary Kratos. And, it was an intense scene, I dare say.
The trailer of the game has also revealed that it’ll be a direct sequel to the 2018 edition. Thus, you can expect it to pick up from where it left off in God of War (2018).
In the video, named “Father and Son,” we saw Kratos and his son, Atreus, fighting against a large wolf. It was quite an intense encounter, to be fair. So, you can consider the game to be “bloody” and fight-worthy as the previous one.
What About The Storyline?
The God of War: Ragnarok begins a few years after the previous war with the Norse Gods and deities ended. And, you can see the evidence in the growth of Atreus, the son of Kratos.
In this game, the legendary father and son are going to face Ragnarok – the Norse version of the apocalypse. And, their aim is going to be to defeat the enemies they made in the previous game, including Freya, alongside some new ones, like Thor.
Besides, at some point, Kratos will also have to deal with Atreus’ rebellious streak to learn more about who he really is.
The storyline is also going to span across nine different planes with the six you’ve already seen in God of War. The new ones include –
- Asgard (the most obvious one).
- Svartalfheim, and
- Vanaheim.
It’s going to be one heck of a ride, isn’t it?
New Characters
In the previous game, you probably have already seen some intriguing new enemies, such as Thor’s brethren. And, like that one, the installment isn’t going to disappoint us in that aspect.
The developer of the series, Santa Monica Studio, has already said that a brand new character will arrive in this one, named Angrboda. He’s one of the remaining giants in the series.
Additionally, you probably have seen a big guy at the end of the trailer. That’s Tyr, the son of Odin, and half-brother of Baldur and Thor.
Although he’s supposed to be the dearest to his father, Odin banished and imprisoned him for good. So, he’ll want to settle the score with his dad as well.
Spoiler Alert!
In the previous installment, we already saw Atreus and Kratos discovering Mrs. Kratos, AKA Faye, is a giant, known as Laufey. Thus, in truth, Atreus is, indeed, a half-giant and half-god. And… don’t fall off your chair now, he has another name, Loki.
Yes, the trickster Norse God, Loki!
Apart from this, we’re going to experience the drastic Fimbulwinter. It usually follows after Ragnarok and is considered to be the “end of the world.”
Oh, and don’t forget.
In this game, you’re going to clash with Thor, the Norse God of Thunder. He’s naturally not happy with how you treated his sons, so he’ll want to have his revenge. However, seeing the trailer, we feel like you might also be able to reason and ask for his help to take care of the apocalypse. But, we don’t know for sure, as of yet.
