Google Renames AI App Development Assistant to ‘Gemini’ in Android Studio
Last year Google introduced a suite of AI tools to enhance productivity, including the Studio Bot, an AI-powered chatbot integrated into Android Studio designed to assist developers with coding and troubleshooting. Today, Google announced an upgrade to this tool, now powered by the advanced Gemini 1.0 Pro model. This update promises significant improvements in response quality and rebrands the Studio Bot to “Gemini in Android Studio.”
Google’s Gemini in Android Studio answers coding queries and provides context-based code completions, improving developer efficiency by allowing the AI to read user code. For developers concerned about privacy, Google introduced the “.aiexclude” file, which can block Gemini from accessing certain files or folders, thus offering developers control over the AI’s access to their code.
Developers interested in trying out Gemini can do so using the latest Android Studio Jellyfish beta, available as a preview version. While Google has not disclosed the final pricing for Gemini in Android Studio, it is currently free for developers in over 180 regions during the preview period.
the new Android Studio Canary release features the “Gemini API Starter” project template, enabling developers to begin creating AI-powered applications using text and image-based Google AI technologies. This release also includes a “Google Generative AI” code sample, providing a comprehensive example of the capabilities extended by the new updates
