Method-1: Find and Repair corrupted Files

Corrupted files can be the reason behind the start menu being stuck. The method is simple- Check these files and repair them. If you do not know how to repair corrupted files then follow the steps given below.

STEP-1: Open Task Manager

To launch task manager, you need to

  • Press CTRL +ALT + ESC all together
  • Right-click on the taskbar
  • Choose task manager

STEP-2: Run Windows PowerShell

After the task manager window opens up, click on the File menu and select New Windows task from the list.

A new Windows task dialog box will appear.

Type PowerShell in the box

Tick on ‘ Create this task with administrative privileges

Click OK

STEP-3: Run System File Checker

An administrator Windows PowerShell window will appear on your screen. Type SFC/scan now and press the enter key. When the scan will be over, you will get any of these three results-

Windows didn’t find any integrity violations. (no corrupted file)

Windows resource protection finds corrupt files and repairs them. (No corrupted file)

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some (or all) of them. (indicates issue)

In the first two results, you do not need to do anything as your problem is solved. But in the last case, you have to take action by yourself. Type DISM/Online/Cleanup-Image/RestoredHealth in the PowerShell window and press enter key. This process will take some time but your corrupted files will be replaced with normal files from Windows update. with this method, you can solve the issue of the Windows 10 key not working on your computer.

Method 2: Reinstall all Windows App

Windows Apps?

Windows apps are built-in Windows 10 apps and are available on the Windows store. These are known as modern apps. Reinstallation of these apps takes a few minutes. But at the time of reinstallation, the previous data is deleted completely. If you are using this method, then make sure to take a Backup of all the data on your PC. However, you can leave the data stored in Microsoft OneDrive and other folders as it will remain unaffected.

Get back to our method; you need to do the following steps-

  • Launch Task manager
  • Open the PowerShell window with administrative privileges (as done in the previous method)
  • Type the following command in the Powershell window-

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

  • Restart your device after the execution of the command is over.

This method sometimes creates problems by stopping the Windows app from working. So do this process carefully. This is the best method to fix Windows 10 search not working issue on your PC.

Method 3: Create a New User Account

If the above two methods don’t suit you then you should create a new account. For this process, follow these steps-

STEP-1: Right-click on the taskbar and select Task Manager from the list

STEP-2: Click on the File option on the task manager window and select Run new task

STEP-3: Type Powershell in creating a new task window, Tick the box on creating this task with administrative privileges, and press OK

STEP-4: Type the following command in the Powershell window and press enter key-

net user NewUsername NewPassword/add

You should not make any mistake in writing ‘net user’ otherwise the command will not be accessed. Here, in place of a New username and New password, you have to write your new username and password. Like, we are using ‘ABC’ as a new username and ‘pass’ as a new password.

The command will be

net user abc pass/add

Do not capitalize the words as Powershell is case-sensitive.

Step 5: Restart your device and log in again with a new username and Password.

Method-4: Restore system

Restoring your system helps in resolving various issues on your device. This is the easiest way to tackle the start menu problem if you can’t follow the above three methods. We will tell you what you need to do-

STEP-1: Right-click on the start button

STEP-2: Select System and System protection

STEP-3: Click on the system restore button

STEP-4: select restore point and click finish

Your system will be restored after the rebooting of your device is done. If this method along with the above methods doesn’t work then try the last method.

Method-5: Refresh your PC

Refreshing your PC is just like reinstalling Windows but it will not affect your data. Only the applications installed outside the Windows will be lost. You can reinstall them further after resetting your PC.

STEP-1: Restart Windows in troubleshooting mode

If any application is open on your device, close it and log out of your Windows account. You can also simply restart your device. When the login screen appears on your PC then-

  • Click the power icon on the right bottom of the screen
  • Hold down the shift key
  • Select Restart option
