Men’s Running Trainers: Cushioning vs. Stability

Men’s Running Trainers

With the overwhelming amount of features showcased on different men’s running trainers, it’s difficult to understand what features you should focus on. It’s important to remember that you need to select running shoes that suit your gait and running style.

In this article, we unpack two types of running shoe features that you have probably heard of stability running trainers and cushioned running trainers. We take a look at how these shoes are designed and what kind of runner they are designed for.

What are stability running trainers?

Stability running shoes offer arch support to assist runners who overpronate. Over-pronation, also referred to as fleet feet, is a common problem that occurs when a person’s arch collapses upon weight bearing when walking. This motion can cause stress and inflammation on the plantar fascia, which can lead to other significant foot problems. Runners who overpronate need to invest in a pair of running shoes that adjust support to make for greater stability.

Mens running trainers designed for stability offer immense arch support which helps runners who overpronate. This kind of technology is similar to motion control trainers that are designed to support runners who come in at higher weights or suffer more serious overpronation. Stability shoes are often heavier than regular or neutral running shoes in order to provide the support needed to soften the arch upon impact.

What are cushioned running trainers?

Cushioned running shoes come with extra padding that can be found on the sole of the shoe. This padding increases the amount of time taken for the momentum change when your foot hits the ground, which ultimately decreases the amount of force that is sent up through the leg. Cushioned mens running trainers are excellent for athletes who run on solid ground and roads as the cushioning greatly reduces the change of inquiry on impact.

However, there are a variety of cushioned running shoes to choose from. For example, some cushioned shoes use a compartment of air within the sole of the feet that functions as a crumple on impact. Gel cushioning has layers of compressible gel while foam shoes replace the gel with a layer of foam.

Whether cushioned running shoes are right for you depends on your particular running style. A cushioned shoe has more midsole cushioning which means that it has the least amount of medial support for the foot. With this in mind, cushioned running shoes are not a good option for runners who overpronate.
