Which One Is The Best Qualcomm Snapdragon vs MediaTek

Qualcomm Snapdragon vs MediaTek

Undoubtedly, one of the intricate parts of tablets & smartphones is the “processor.” It is regarded as the brain of any smart device as a result. Since it essentially manages all of a device’s operations, calling it a “processor” won’t be justified. Because System on a Chip (SoC) explicitly describes the operation or utility of a particular gadget, manufacturers tend to employ it more frequently. In conclusion, a processor, a central processing unit (CPU), is a logical circuitry that responds to and processes the fundamental orders to operate or run a computer.

A computer is the most significant and fundamental integrated circuit (IC) chip because it is in charge. The type of CPU used in smartphones is something that fans of our digital age constantly check for.

Everyone should choose a processor that guarantees long battery life and high performance. When making this decision, consumers have an option between Qualcomm Incorporated & MediaTek Incorporated, two of the top chipmakers in the market. Both manufacturers are in the lead when it comes to market share, accounting for more than 50% of the total market for smartphone app processors.

About Qualcomm Snapdragon and MediaTek

Qualcomm Incorporated is now the industry leader for mobile CPUs. The top-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon 8xx series processors currently power the best Android flagships. After delivering the Helio X30 CPU in 2017, MediaTek left the high-tech smartphone chipset market due to Qualcomm’s dominance. And right now, MediaTek is trying to release the Helio G90T chipset. As a result, MediaTek is currently in a disadvantageous position and must overcome several biases to return to its earlier position. Recent data by the worldwide analytical firm Counterpoint indicates that many smartphone manufacturers rely on MediaTek’s range to power their low-cost tablets.

Introduction About MediaTek

The headquarters of MediaTek Incorporated is in Hsinchu. It is a Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company that provides processors, essential parts of most of the electronic products we use daily, including TVs, cellphones, computers, tablets, navigational systems, and other multimedia equipment.

As was already mentioned, a CPU manages every aspect of a device’s operation, from battery life to performance.

The fourth-largest manufacturer of chipsets is MediaTek. Beyond your expectations, the MediaTek chipset’s adaptability may be found in any electronic gadget, including DVD players, smart TVs, Android tablets, handheld mobile devices, and handheld mobile devices.

Because MediaTek processors are so widely utilized, they should be present in at least one of every three devices worldwide. These processors are ideal for balancing cost, performance, power, and connection.

Main areas of concentration of MediaTek

Mobile: By making the device more responsive & prompt to instructions/tasks, prolonging battery life, and dabbling with artificial intelligence, MediaTek breathes new life into smartphone CPUs. The ultimate goal of MediaTek is to ensure that even mid-range devices have high-end features, making it possible for many people to access advanced technology.

Automobiles: Autonomous vehicles are more likely to become a reality than dinosaurs. The next project for MediaTek is the search for such automotive resolutions that use sensors, machine learning, and near- and long-range interconnection technologies.

The recent introduction of MediaTek’s Helio G series processors has raised the bar for the competition. Typically, these processors can be found in mid-range smartphones that offer amazing features like dependable, seamless connectivity, pose tracking, smarter displays, uninterrupted gameplay, acceptable visual quality, etc. However, with the debut of its Dimensity 1000 chipset in 2019 and its amazing integrated 5G+5G dual-SIM & 5G modem, MediaTek entered the 5G race. As a result, barriers between the mobile and automobile are about to disintegrate into the vast world wide web.

The primary advantage of MediaTek over Qualcomm is cost, which is around twice as low for MediaTek’s device while guaranteeing the same performance as Qualcomm.

The properties of MediaTek Chipsets are Following

  • The cost of MediaTek CPUs is not very low.
  • The System on a Chip from MediaTek uses greater battery power.
  • The higher rate of heating is caused by having more processor cores.
  • MediaTek does not make little integrated graphic chips inside MediaTek’s chipset.
  • MediaTek processors have extremely high levels of processing power.
  • MediaTek processors typically offer more cores per CPU.

Introduction About Qualcomm Snapdragon

Snapdragon is a package of SoC semiconductor components made for mobile devices Qualcomm Incorporated manufactured and sold. It combines a cellular modem, GPS (Global Positioning System), & a GPU (Graphical Processing Unit) into a single unit. The processor also has software for video, photo, and graphics processing.

The Snapdragon’s central processing unit (CPU) is based on the ARM architecture. Additionally, Qualcomm typically takes Snapdragon into account as a smartphone platform. Qualcomm Incorporated is best known for its Snapdragon family of CPUs. The 200, 400, 600, 700, & 800 series of Snapdragon processors, which range from entry-level to high-end, each contain 23 different varieties. The 400 Snapdragon line-up series is used in smartwatches and smartphones, and the 602A is intended for electronic cars.

The top five global manufacturers, including Lenovo, Xiaomi, TCL, Huawei, & ZTE, employ Qualcomm Incorporated’s chipsets, which currently account for 65% of the 4G LTE market share. Qualcomm is also a market leader in China.

The characteristics of Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets are:

  • The most trustworthy CPUs are those made by Qualcomm.
  • The battery life of the Snapdragon System on a chip is limited.
  • Compared to MediaTek CPUs, it doesn’t get much heated.
  • Plug for Qualcomm graphics: Snapdragon chips always include Adreno as a part of them.
  • Standard testing frequently demonstrates that the performance of the Qualcomm Snapdragon is superior to that of all other chipsets.

The preferred choice has been a Qualcomm-equipped phone if you’re planning to flash a new ROM on it. Unfortunately, compared to Qualcomm, MediaTek smartphones have a bad reputation for developer support (or lack thereof). The problem appears centered on the organization’s policy for disclosing source code, which is more complicated than the U.S. chipmaker’s. Since then, MediaTek has said to Android Authority that it will think about making the source code available to the public, but not anytime soon.

The system upgrades for MediaTek phones are likewise notorious for being late or absent. However, many low-end companies have historically relied on their chips and frequently lack the funding to update their phones in the first place.

Last Thoughts

In the end, purchasing a smartphone involves much more than just its chipset. Which phone—a strong one devoid of features or one in the middle has a superior camera, is water resistant, and has a headphone jack? The decision is already made for you if you want a true flagship phone or intend to tamper with your phone’s internals (Qualcomm). The mid-range segment, however, is murkier because MediaTek’s Helio P60/P70 and Qualcomm’s well-known Snapdragon 660 are both capable processors, albeit Qualcomm’s most recent 600-series chips outperform the Helio P60/P70.

But because of that strong AI performance, in principle, the Taiwanese company might see some victories with the Helio P90. Thanks to the Helio A22 & P22 series, MediaTek enjoys an advantage in the entry-level market. The new CPUs deliver Bluetooth 5 while providing fresher, smaller chips than Qualcomm’s low-end efforts up until recently (a rarity at this price point). MediaTek frequently undercuts Qualcomm’s prices, raising the chance but not ensuring that a MediaTek phone will be less expensive.
