iOS 17: Rumour about Features, Specification, and More
Apple is expected to unveil iOS 17 later this year, with the software update set to bring changes to the company’s first-party apps and improvements to the overall experience of using iPhones. The unveiling is likely to happen at WWDC, Apple’s annual developer conference, which is set to take place in June. The expected launch of the iPhone 15 series is in September, and iOS 17 is expected to be released in or around the middle of September to coincide with that launch.
Some rumors suggest that iOS 17 will drop support for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X, while others suggest that iOS 17 will be compatible with all iPhones that are capable of running iOS 16. It’s also important to note that with the introduction of iOS 16.4, Apple made a change that makes iPhone updates download by default, so if your iPhone does qualify for the update, it’ll likely download iOS 17 automatically.
As for the features of iOS 17, while there may not be game-changing additions like those seen in previous releases, the upcoming update is rumored to provide several of users’ most requested features. Some of the updates are expected to be made to existing iPhone features and apps, like CarPlay, Siri, and Messages. Additionally, certain first-party apps like Wallet and Health are rumored to be getting upgrades with iOS 17.
More specific rumored features include improvements to CarPlay to make it more user-friendly and efficient, augmented reality (AR) capabilities in the camera app, a Safari download manager to manage all your downloads within the app, a Screen Time API which will allow third-party apps to access Screen Time data, and improvements to Messages and FaceTime, such as bringing chat bubbles to iMessage.
Please note that all this information is based on rumors and should be taken with a grain of salt. The exact features and compatibility of iOS 17 will be confirmed by Apple at the WWDC event in 5th June and the official release in September.
