Insta360 Go 3: The Compact Action Camera with a Twist”
Insta360 has recently unveiled its latest offering in the compact action camera market – the Insta360 Go 3. This thumb-sized modular 2.7K action camera is smarter than it looks, featuring a higher video capture resolution, a flip-out full-color display for vlogging, and a super-convenient, thumb-sized magnetic body.
The Go 3 camera is a bit heavier than its predecessor, the Go 2, due to a higher-capacity battery. This trade-off allows for an increased recording time of 45 minutes, up from the 30 minutes offered by the Go 2. Insta360 also promises up to 173 minutes of 1080p filming when the Go 3 is docked in its Action Pod.
The Go 3’s core mini camera module is waterproof up to 16ft (5M), while the Action Pod (its housing) is just splash resistant, up to IPX4. The housing of the Go 3 also levels up the interface by providing a full-touch display for interaction, making users far less dependent on the smartphone app. The Action Pod also serves as a wireless control even when disconnected from the camera module, allowing users to adjust settings and wirelessly capture content.
The Go 3 package includes a Magnet Pendant for mounting the camera around your neck, an Easy Clip for hat or headband mounting, an adhesive Pivot Stand that also works as a 1/4” mount, and a removable lens, which can be easily swapped with filters or even a new lens. If you already have action cam mounts, you won’t be able to dock the new Go 3 without the additional purchase of the Quick Release Mount, a tripod thread/action cam two-in-one mount for the Action Pod.
The Insta360 Go 3 became available to order on June 27, 2023, and comes in three packages based on storage capacity – 32GB ($380 / £380), 64GB ($400 / £400), and 128GB ($430 / £430). Given that this camera doesn’t have a microSD card slot like much of the competition, prospective buyers are advised to choose a package with enough space for the type of content they plan to capture.
