WWDC 2023: Apple Unveils ‘Vision Pro’, A Revolutionary Mixed Reality Headset
Apple has officially announced its latest tech marvel, the ‘Apple Vision Pro’ – a mixed reality headset that pioneers a new frontier in spatial computing.
Unlike traditional devices that require users to stare at a screen, the Vision Pro allows users to look through it, blending digital content seamlessly with the physical environment around them. The device is driven by the user’s eyes, hands, and voice, featuring an innovative control mechanism that enables finger tapping for selection and flicking for scrolling.
This innovative device boasts EyeSight technology, designed to display the user’s eyes and expressions on the outer display. In an immersive experience, the display shows different animations, and if someone is nearby, they’re revealed through passthrough, with the user’s eyes reappearing.
The Vision Pro is designed to work wirelessly with Macs and their peripherals. It features FaceTime group call capabilities, SharePlay for sharing apps, and the ability to capture spatial photos and videos. It can also simulate a dark theatre in a bright room. The device is powered by an M2 chip with a custom media co-processor.
In terms of content, users can expect a wide range of experiences. For instance, ‘No Man’s Sky’ is confirmed to be available on the headset, and users can also visit virtual Disney World and experience sports, concerts, and undersea exploration through VR.
The Vision Pro is designed with the comfort of glasses wearers in mind, featuring compatibility with custom optical inserts that magnetically attach to the lenses. The device uses microLED display technology and includes 23 million pixels across two panels, offering more pixels than a 4K TV per eye. With an external battery, users can expect up to 2 hours of battery life, or all-day use when plugged in.
The device runs on visionOS and creates a digital avatar that looks human and realistic. The Vision Pro also introduces a new biometric security method, the ‘Optic ID,’ similar to Touch ID and Face ID, but designed for eyes.
Apple Vision Pro is set to be available early next year, with a starting price of $3,499. To build anticipation for the launch, Apple has released an advertisement for the Vision Pro.
The introduction of Apple Vision Pro marks an exciting new chapter in the world of mixed reality, promising a user experience like no other.
