Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty DLC
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, developed by CD Projekt Red (CDPR), is expected to be the only expansion to the Cyberpunk 2077 game and is already generating excitement among fans. It has been described as a “spy-thriller” expansion, and it is expected to bring players back to Night City, albeit in a new district.
The release date for the expansion is currently set for 2023, although some rumors suggest it could be as soon as August 2023. However, this is unconfirmed, and we may learn more during the Summer Game Fest 2023. The expansion will only be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, as CDPR has phased out support for PS4 and Xbox One, focusing on current-gen consoles and PC. This change was confirmed on September 6, 2022, with the announcement that patch 1.6 would be the last major update for the old-gen consoles.
Phantom Liberty is not a free update but a paid DLC. While the exact price is not officially confirmed, a leak from a pre-order listing on the GOG storefront (now removed) indicated a price tag of around $34.99, which would make it more expensive than all of the Witcher 3 DLC combined.
The expansion will introduce Idris Elba as Solomon Reed, an FIA Agent for the NUSA. Players will team up with Elba’s character on a mission of espionage and survival in a new district of Night City. Keanu Reeves will also reprise his popular NPC role of Johnny Silverhand.
The setting for Phantom Liberty will be a previously unexplored area of Night City. Speculation suggests that this could be the Pacifica Combat Zone, a dangerous area that has been walled off from the rest of the city. The plot is expected to involve infiltration and espionage, likely with V reciting a pledge of allegiance to the New United States of America.
The expansion will feature a new cast of characters, although there will be some returning favorites. The player will be reprising the role of V, likely continuing from the core campaign.
In addition to the gameplay, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will feature a brand new radio station, 89.7 Growl FM, hosted by DJ ASH. This station is notable as it will feature music created by members of the Cyberpunk 2077 player community.
Despite the buzz, some questions still remain unanswered. For example, the official release date is yet to be confirmed, as is the final pricing for the DLC. However, with the Summer Game Fest 2023 just around the corner, it’s likely we won’t have to wait much longer for more details.
