Huawei P Smart: Review, Features, and Specification
Deja Vu! Huawei has launched P Smart which brings back the memories of Honor 10 Lite. Honor’s phone was a great value for money, impressive screen, and sleek design – and it all is offered by this new P Smart too. It does lack wireless charging, waterproofing, and USB-C support. So, is it a worthy option to consider?
Huawei P Smart Review, Features & Specification
Design and Display Quality
The new Huawei P Smart is not having the glass back but a unibody plastic body, which makes this device light. This device has a glossy effect at the back which makes it look like glass. The device can be scratched easily, only because it is a plastic-build. Huawei Smart P comes in three color options including Midnight Black, Aurora Blue, and Turquoise Blue.
On the back panel, you get to see the fingerprint sensor in the middle while the dual-camera setup is on the top-left. The bottom edge packs a speaker grille, a micro USB port, and a headphone jack.
The front is bare with only waterdrop notch on the top and minimal bezels on the top and sides. The bottom bezel is relatively thicker than them and Huawei has managed to squeeze a notification light in below the screen
Coming to the display, the Huawei P Smart packs a 6.21 inch LCD screen with a resolution of 2230 x 1080 pixels. The front has almost 90% screen-to-body ratio – according to Huawei. The device gets really bright and has good outer viewability too. You also get to find the “Eye Comfort” mode feature in the device which calibrates the colors and gives you more control over the screen tone.
Performance
under the hood, the Huawei P Smart has a Kirin 710 processor which is coupled with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The device can easily perform any simple task but it slows down when you jump to power-hungry apps. Talking about gaming, this device handles them pretty well and without any issues. As you start loading intense games, the device starts to slow down and you get to see some noticeable lags.
64 gigs of RAM can be expanded up to 512GB via microSD card and it is brilliant. Connectivity is impressive in this model as you get G, NFC and Bluetooth 4.2 all on board. The presence of micro USB port is questionable as we would have preferred USB-C.
The Huawei P Smart runs Android 9 out of the box which is combined with Huawei’s EMUI 9 custom skin.
Battery Backup and Battery Life
The Huawei P Smart 2019 model packs a 3,400mAh battery which is just decent. Yes, this device can stay awake for the whole day. And, on 90 minutes of full-brightness Full HD video playback, battery level drained by 19%, which is a respectable result. Honor has also included Power Saving and Ultra Power Saving modes, which give you full control over the fact that how your battery gets used. These modes can be accessed easily. This device is not quick enough – in terms of charging – as it takes more than an hour and a half to get from 0-100%. There is no wireless charging on this device either.
Cameras
Talking about the cameras, the Honor P Smart has a dual-camera setup behind which includes a 13-megapixel primary sensor and a 2MP secondary lens. The results were identical to the ones we got from Honor 10 Lite. There are some slight differences though; like aggressively exposed shots and some shots were washed out on the Honor 10 lite. The Night mode in this device also works fine and actually, we love it. The camera app gets nearly everything – from Automatic to AI mode and there is also a Pro mode for some cool images.
As far as the front camera is concerned, there is a 24-megapixel camera settled in this device’s waterdrop notch on the front. Compare its images with Honor 10 Lite’s front cam, you see the results a bit less detailed but they are perfectly decent.
Final Verdict
The new Huawei P Smart brings back the old memories – remember Honor 10 Lite – deja vu! Although they are slightly different from their bodies, camera surrounds, and front camera resolution but else, everything is the same from specs to UI. There is only a Kirin 710 processor that can’t handle heavy multitasking and advanced gaming. Also, no waterproofing, no wireless charging, and even no USB-C support make it a questionable device. This device’s only pros are its camera, storage, and great battery life. Also, the screen and design are likable. Should you buy it? It is a very easy phone if you are looking for a decent phone that won’t break your bank. Else, look somewhere else.
