Intel Discontinues its Arc A770 Limited Edition GPU
In a surprising move, Intel has officially discontinued its Arc A770 Limited Edition (21P01J00BA) graphics card. The decision came with a minimal warning; Intel released a Product Change Notification document stating that the original version of the card would no longer be produced. The last order and shipment date was June 20, indicating that the final shipments of the Arc A770 Limited Edition graphics cards are likely already on their way to distributors and retailers.
The Arc A770 Limited Edition, which was on the market for less than a year, was Intel’s branded version of its flagship graphics card, akin to Nvidia’s first-party ‘Founders Edition cards. The Limited Edition moniker did not imply a restricted production run, but rather it denoted Intel’s in-house graphics cards. The card was offered in both 8GB and 16GB variants, but the limited edition was one of the few options with 16 GB.
The discontinuation of the Arc A770 Limited Edition could be linked to its profitability. Despite being competitive in terms of 1080p performance and pricing, it retailed at $349, and other versions, like the Acer Predator BiFrost Intel Arc A770 OC, have been selling for slightly less at $339, possibly impacting the sales of the Limited Edition version.
the discontinuation of Intel’s version does not mark the end for the Arc A770. The card will remain available in custom AIB models, and other vendors such as Acer and Sparkle will continue to provide their versions of the Arc A770. The slightly less powerful Intel Arc A750 Limited Edition is still available for now, but speculation suggests that its discontinuation could be imminent.
Intel’s discontinuation of the A770 Limited Edition is seen by some as a strategic decision to allocate resources to future projects. The successor to Alchemist codenamed ‘Battlemage’, is expected to arrive in 2024. Rumors suggest Intel is preparing at least two Battlemage graphics cards that could be the direct replacements for the Arc A750 and Arc A770.
Despite the rocky start and discontinuation of its in-house version of the Arc A770, Intel seems determined to continue its efforts in the graphics market. The company’s commitment to providing competition in a sector dominated by Nvidia remains unabated.
