iOS 16.5 Update Reportedly Draining iPhone Batteries
Apple’s recent iOS 16.5 update has come under fire from users who are reporting unexpected and drastic battery drain. The issue has been causing a significant stir on social media platforms, with users expressing their frustrations.
One disgruntled user took to Twitter to describe the update as “deadly for the battery”, while another user warned of “horrific” battery life, “drastically” slower charging times, and “seriously hot temperatures”.
The company has responded to the issue, stating that it’s normal for iPhone apps and features to need to adjust up to 48 hours after an update. They believe that this may account for the initial battery drain experienced by some users. When users download a new version of iOS, a significant amount of processing happens in the background. Data is optimized for the new software, battery settings may be recalibrated, apps might need patches, and photos may be rescanned if the update includes new algorithms. All of these processes use up battery power, but it’s expected to be a temporary problem. According to Apple, after a couple of days, the battery should have adjusted and things should return to normal.
Despite the outcry, not all users have experienced these battery issues. Some users have reported that their iPhones after being updated to iOS 16.5, didn’t show any noticeable battery drain. Furthermore, if there is a systemic issue, Apple is likely to release a further update to address the root of the problem, as they did with the iOS 15.4.1 update which was released within a fortnight of widespread issues being reported.
For those who have waited 48 hours and their iPhones are still struggling with battery life, Apple advises checking the iPhone’s battery health, which can be found in the Settings menu under “Battery Health”. If the battery health is below 90% and the phone is still struggling, it may be time to consider a battery replacement.
