How to Keep Your Manufacturing Site Tidy
There are many different reasons to make sure that your manufacturing site is clean and tidy. This makes it a far better place for your employees to spend their time, ensuring health and safety measures can be met, and a reduction of on-site or visiting pests.
Of course, if your manufacturing site is not kept clean and tidy, you will find that rubbish and debris increase and your business output will decrease. Machinery will break down more often and your contracted cleaners will be unhappy with the increasing workload, but to make life easier, there are some steps you will need to take.
Provide Plenty of Trash Bins for Both Waste and Recycling
Now you are addressing waste, and employees need to comply with any new regime on housekeeping, you are going to have to make plenty of bins available to them. If you do not supply these, then the trash will just spread all over the floor.
You should also promote recycling where possible amongst your employees and, therefore, provide recycling receptacles at various places along your shop floor, canteen, and external areas.
Initiate Recycling Area on the Site
Most manufacturing businesses have a specific area for recycling within their warehouse area or yard. With the sheer amount of cardboard and recyclable packing that manufacturing businesses accrue, you must have ways of being able to store it in an organized manner. Having a baler on-site, for instance, will not only mean that you will be able to store these items in a much more efficient fashion, but will also be able to store more.
When you are using an industrial baler, you are going to need the correct gauge wire for the job. For this to happen, you should speak to a reputable company that will be able to advise you which bale ties you will require for your employees to complete the baling job quickly and easily.
Enforce a 10-Minute ‘Clean Down’ Time
You could easily enforce a 10-minute cleaning downtime at the end of each shift to make sure that your workers leave their workstations clean and tidy for the next shift to start, or for your paid cleaners to carry out their roles quickly. During this time, you should make sure that your employees are aware of returning tools to designated areas, leaving work partly completed either on a particular shelf or in a tidy tray on their desk for next-day completion.
Ensure Minimal Packing Materials on the Shop Floor
It is crucial that as much of the packaging is removed from items in your warehouse area before they are taken onto the shop floor. Where possible, invest in specialized protection for any delicate pieces that can be used again and again and, therefore, returned to the warehouse when no longer required. This will result in your shop floor bins not getting clogged with unnecessary waste or recycling, as well as help to keep your premises clean, tidy, and more organized.
