Meta Unveils Quest+ Subscription Service for Virtual Reality Headsets

Meta Quest+ Subscription Service

Meta has announced the launch of a new service, Quest+, a subscription-based offering for its Quest virtual reality headsets. Meta Quest users can now access two top-tier titles every month for a monthly fee of $7.99 or an annual fee of $59.99. The new virtual reality subscription was officially confirmed by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and is available for Quest 2 and Pro users, with support for Quest 3 coming this fall.

The first hint of the new subscription service surfaced in March when a Twitter user noticed a game pass feature in the Meta Quest app. Later, another Twitter user spotted the title and price of Meta Quest+ in the app’s selection, giving a peek into the new offering.

Meta Quest+ promises to deliver an exciting catalog of games to subscribers every month. The inaugural offerings are the action-rhythm game FPS Pistol Whip and the arcade adventure game Pixel Ripped 1995. In August, players can look forward to the games Walkabout Mini Golf and Mothergunship: Forge. Importantly, users will retain all the titles as long as they remain subscribed to Meta Quest+.

Meta’s subscription service sets it apart from competitors like PlayStation, which does not offer VR games through its PlayStation Plus subscription. In its announcement, Meta compared its new service to the subscription models of yore, such as Blockbuster’s, noting that Meta Quest+ combines affordability with the convenience of a curated experience. The company believes that this new service will enable gamers to explore all their headsets have to offer.

For early adopters, Meta is offering an introductory discount. Users who sign up before July 31 will only pay $1 for the first month. Additionally, the company has announced more games coming to the VR headset, including anticipated titles like Stranger Things VR, Assassin’s Creed, and Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord.

This subscription-based model is seen as a significant step forward for Meta and the virtual reality gaming industry. By offering a curated and continuously refreshed catalog of games, Meta is looking to drive engagement and ensure that its VR headsets remain a compelling offering for consumers.
