Samsung Faces Criticism for ‘Cloning’ Apple Products After Galaxy Unpacked Event 2024
It’s often said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but Samsung seems to have taken this too far, according to numerous tech outlets, YouTubers, and even some of its fans.
During Samsung’s recent Galaxy Unpacked event, the company unveiled several new products, including smartphones, smartwatches, earbuds, and a new health-focused wearable, the Samsung Galaxy Ring. However, many viewers noticed that some of these new products looked strikingly similar to Apple’s offerings.
Criticism of Samsung’s New Products
Smartwatches and Earbuds: The new Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Buds 3 series drew the most criticism. Observers noted that these products seemed to closely mimic Apple’s Apple Watch Ultra and AirPods, sparking accusations of “copying.”
Social Media Reactions: On social media, users expressed disappointment, highlighting the lack of substantial updates in products like the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The Apple Hub account on X posted a side-by-side photo of Samsung’s and Apple’s new smartwatches and earbuds, captioning it “Copy and paste.”
Media Outlets’ Opinions: News outlets such as The Verge and Business Insider also called out Samsung. Business Insider’s headline read, “Samsung’s new ‘Ultra’ watch and earbuds are shameless Apple copycats,” while The Verge criticized the Galaxy Buds 3 for their “AirPods-esque” design.
Not Just Clones: While Samsung’s new smartwatch and earbuds have faced significant backlash, it’s important to note that the company also introduced unique products. The Galaxy Z Fold 6, a foldable smartphone, remains in a category where Apple has no direct competitor yet.
Industry Reactions: Tech reviewers and journalists were also vocal. Andrew O’Hara from Apple Insider expressed his disappointment with X, calling Samsung’s new releases “boring” and a “massive fail” compared to its previous innovations.
Despite the controversy, Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event showcased a variety of products. However, the focus on the similarities to Apple’s products overshadowed these announcements, leading to widespread criticism.
