Samsung Galaxy S23 One UI 6 Beta Coming in July

Samsung Galaxy S23 One UI 6 Beta

Samsung is expected to commence the Android 14-based One UI 6 Beta program for the Galaxy S23 series in the third week of July 2023. Following this, owners of the Galaxy S22 and S21 series will be able to participate in the Beta testing program in select markets.

The One UI 6 Beta program, which is anticipated to kick off in late July, will be limited to certain countries. The countries involved in the One UI 5 Beta program are expected to remain the same for the One UI 6 Beta. These include seven regions from Asia, Europe, and North America.

By the last week of July, Google may release the Android 14 OS to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and provide a Stable update to Beta testers. The first week of August could see the new OS rolled out to the public, beginning with Pixel smartphone owners. Other brands like OnePlus and Oppo will also receive updates shortly after.

The Stable Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update is reported to start rolling out to eligible models in October of this year. Android 14 introduces new customization capabilities that should be reflected in Samsung’s skin for Galaxy devices. Alongside these features, privacy and security upgrades are also anticipated.

The current One UI 5.0 is based on Android 13, and last year’s One UI 4.x versions were based on Android 12. Therefore, the upcoming One UI 6.0 software for Galaxy devices will be based on the new Android 14 OS. Given Samsung’s commitment to providing up to four generations of Android plus One UI and five years of security updates, a clear expectation has been set for the devices that will receive the next Android version upgrade.

Eligible devices for the Android 14 (One UI 6.0) update include various models from the Galaxy Z series, Galaxy S series, Galaxy A series, Galaxy M series, and Galaxy Tab series. However, it’s worth noting that Samsung has yet to reveal which Galaxy devices will receive Android 14, and some unlisted devices may also get the One UI 6 update.

While consumers have high expectations for One UI 6.0, several Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20 series, and the Galaxy S20 FE, are no longer eligible for major updates. Although they were launched with Android 10 pre-installed, Samsung has not pledged the Android 14 update for these devices.
