Samsung Unveils New Security Features for Galaxy Devices
Samsung has introduced two new privacy and security features for its Galaxy smartphones and tablets: Quick Share Private Sharing and Samsung Cloud Enhanced Data Protection. These additions continue Samsung’s tradition of enhancing data security, building on previous innovations like Knox and Secure Folder.
1. Quick Share Private Sharing
Quick Share Private Sharing is a new mode within the existing Quick Share feature. To activate it, users can click the three-dot button in the top right corner of the Quick Share screen. This mode allows users to share up to 20 files with a maximum size of 200MB securely.
Key features of Private Sharing include:
Contact Restrictions: Only designated contacts can view the shared files.
Expiration Timer: Users can set a time limit after which the files will no longer be visible.
View-Only Mode: Shared files are in read-only mode, preventing recipients from sharing or screenshotting them.
Blockchain-Based Encryption: Ensures the highest level of data protection.
This feature is currently exclusive to Samsung devices and supports various file types, including audio, documents, images, and videos.
2. Enhanced Data Protection for Samsung Cloud Backups
Enhanced Data Protection offers end-to-end encryption for all data backed up and synced with Samsung Cloud, starting with the Galaxy S24 series. This means that even if the server storing the data is compromised, the data remains secure and can only be decrypted on the user’s Samsung device.
To enable this feature:
- Go to Settings.
- Select Security and privacy.
- Navigate to More Security Settings.
- Turn on the toggles for Encrypt Backup Data and Encrypt Synced Data.
- Upon activation, users will receive a recovery code, essential for regaining access to their Samsung account if needed.
By introducing Quick Share Private Sharing and Enhanced Data Protection, Samsung aims to provide its users with more control and security over their data, ensuring a safer digital experience.
