Which Streaming Services Provide Local Channels to You?
If you are someone who still watches television, then you might be among those who view some of the popular networks, such as CBS, NBC, and FOX. Many of the programs on these networks rank in the top 10 in ratings. However, if you don’t want multiple services for your home, there are a few streaming services that are available that offer local channels so that you can watch your favorites in one place.
Best Streaming Services That Provide Local Channel
Free is Still Available
If you have an antenna, then you can access most of your local networks. This is a free option that allows you to watch news broadcasts, movies, and some of the most popular television shows that are out. You’ll need a converter box if your television isn’t digital before connecting an antenna. An antenna will usually run you about $25 depending on the size and style that you purchase.
Streaming
If you don’t want to deal with the hassle of an antenna or a converter box, then consider streaming your favorite local channels. There are free trial options from most services so that you can see what’s available before you make a decision about subscribing and paying a monthly fee. Some of the most popular services include Sling TV, Hulu, DIRECTV Stream, and FuboTV. All of these offer some type of free trial ranging from a week to 14 days.
Hulu
Most of the top networks are streamed live on Hulu. FOX, CBS, the CW, and NBC are usually available in all areas so that you can watch on the streaming service just as you would on your television if you had an antenna or cable. You’ll also have access to many of the channels that you would have from a cable provider but at a lower price. You can choose the Live TV option for $64.99 a month and have access to the library of movies and shows that are available.
YouTube TV
A difference that you’ll notice with this option is that you can view PBS, which makes it beneficial if you have children who like to watch television. The price for this service, if you want to watch live local channels, is $64.99 a month, and there is no contract that you need to enter. You can watch YouTube TV on multiple platforms including Android, Apple TV, and Fire TV. It’s not available on Roku as of yet.
FuboTV
This is an option to consider if you want an abundance of local channels along with more sports as you’ll have access to NBCSN, BTN, and similar channels. The monthly price is comparable to YouTube and Hulu, and the service can be streamed on most platforms. You’ll also have access to a DVR that allows you to save about 250 hours of programming.
DIRECTV Stream
The service includes most local channels that you can watch on up to three devices at one time. It also offers a DVR for storing your favorites along with extra channels that include Freeform, HGTV, and AMC. This is an option that’s supported by Roku.
Limitations
There are a few options available that don’t have as many local channels but that do offer several shows and movies in their library of selections. Sling TV and Video offer FOX, ABC, and NBC. They also offer a free trial to see if you like the service.
