The rumor mill promised Apple’s second-generation AirPods Pro for this year, but it will probably not come of it. One of the best-informed insiders now reveals the changed release plan and reveals how long we have to wait.
In January it was still promising that Apple would want to present the new AirPods Pro 2 to us in April. As is well known, nothing came of this and we will probably wait in vain for an announcement from Apple for the remaining months of the current year. The hope of an early introduction is now destroyed by Mark Gurman from the news magazine Bloomberg, the well-informed insider who knows about Apple’s changed release plans.
AirPods Pro 2 not coming until 2022: Apple changes plans
Accordingly, the presentation of the AirPods Pro 2 has been postponed until next year. Gurman still owes us the reasons for this. What he still reveals, however: The successor to the AirPods should receive updated motion sensors and shift the focus to fitness tracking. The changed design of the headphones was already known. They will probably do without the small stubs in the future and thus become even more compact. Even before the AirPods Pro 2, the recently unmasked Beats Studio Buds are said to have a similar shape – a first for Apple.
We can continue to hope, however, for the third generation of the “normal” AirPods. According to Gurman, the AirPods 3 can be expected to be presented this year – the third quarter is spoken of. The headphones will be similar to the current Pro models, but you shouldn’t expect active noise cancellation.
AirPods Max is available in new colors
However, Apple has no plans yet for a successor to the AirPods Max. Apple’s most expensive headphones will not be replaced yet, as they were only introduced at the end of 2020. But even if Apple is not currently working on a 2nd generation, according to the insider, new color variants are up for discussion. Such a visual refresh should be expected. There is no release plan for this yet.
