Ferrari Unveils the 12Cilindri: A Pure V-12 Powerhouse
Ferrari has recently introduced its latest marvel, the 12Cilindri, and its open-top variant, the 12Cilindri Spider, showcasing a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology. Unveiled in Miami, this successor to the 812 Superfast continues Ferrari’s legacy with a robust 12-cylinder engine, eschewing hybrid systems to meet emission standards purely through engineering excellence.
The heart of the 12Cilindri is a 6.5-liter V-12 engine, an evolved version of the F140 V-12 first seen in the Enzo. This engine delivers a staggering 819 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. It achieves these figures without the aid of electric motors, relying instead on advanced mechanics, including titanium connecting rods and a novel valvetrain with roller finger followers for enhanced efficiency and power delivery.
Unique to this model is the “Aspirated Torque Shaping” system, which optimizes the torque curve in specific gears, enhancing the driving experience. This power is managed by an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission that promises shift times 30% quicker than its predecessor, making it one of the fastest-shifting vehicles available.
Performance figures are equally impressive, with the 12Cilindri capable of accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds and reaching a top speed of over 211 mph. Its design borrows elements from the Ferrari Roma, sporting technical details and a nod to the heritage with a Daytona-esque black panel on the front.
Inside, the 12Cilindri features the classic Ferrari steering wheel with numerous controls and a central infotainment display, a setup similar to the one in the Purosangue but without rear seats. It also incorporates Ferrari’s latest chassis technologies, including Side Slip Control 8 and an innovative four-wheel steering system.
Except for a marginally shorter wheelbase, the 12Cilindri and its Spider counterpart are slightly larger than the 812 Superfast. They roll on 21-inch wheels equipped with high-performance tires from Michelin or Goodyear, ensuring formidable grip and responsiveness.
In terms of pricing, the 12Cilindri is positioned at the premium end of the market, with the coupe starting at approximately $423,000 and the Spider at $466,000. Given Ferrari’s reputation and the allure of its V-12 models, these vehicles are expected to be highly sought after and potentially sell out for years.
