A Gaming Console With Windows Is Making Its Way Towards The Gaming Industry
Although the Nintendo Switch is relatively large for a handheld console, that is not enough for some gamers. You’re longing for a more extensive alternative that, at best, runs on Windows. A Chinese company has now made this dream come true.
ONE PLAYER: Monster-Switch with Windows from China
A Nintendo Switch for PC games, that’s what many gamers dream of; there are now some promising Windows alternatives to Nintendo’s hybrid console. The GPD Win 3 and the AYA Neo, in particular, have made a name for themselves in the recent past.
Now another player named ONE Netbook is entering the field and presenting his new switch alternative on the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform: the ONEXPLAYER. Switch fans should notice immediately: The screen of the new China clone is significantly larger than the original, with a diagonal of 8.4 inches. For comparison, the standard Nintendo Switch display measures just 6.2 inches, that of the Switch Lite only 5.5 inches.
But not only has the screen grown, but the resolution of the display is also significantly higher. While the switch only offers 720p, the ONEXPLAYER’s IPS touch panel has a maximum resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels – a real quantum leap!
The hardware of the switch alternative: This is under the hood of the ONEXPLAYER.
But if you want to compute games in such a high resolution, you should also have the proper hardware ready. An Intel Core i5-1135G7, i7-1165G7, or i7-1185G7 is used as the processor in the ONEXPLAYER. The CPU is provided with 16 GB DDR4 RAM with a clock rate of up to 4,266 MHz. Depending on the model, a 512 GB, 1 TB, or 2 TB PCIe SSD is used as mass storage.
According to the first test by technology YouTuber LinusTechTips, the ONEXPLAYER achieves frame rates of around 35-45 FPS in Rocket League with this hardware – at maximum resolution and graphics settings. If the resolution is reduced to 720p, the FPS increase to a value of 90-100 – the AYA Neo also achieves roughly the same performance:
According to the manufacturer, the battery life is around 10 hours when playing a video. However, this period should be significantly reduced when gaming. We expect a battery life of about 3-5 hours in this scenario.
The ONEXPLAYER is currently only available via Indiegogo. The model with an i5 processor and 512 GB SSD costs around 816.14$, the most expensive version with an i7 processor and 2 TB SSD is almost twice as expensive at 1,227 euros, but the high-end version is already sold out. The consoles are expected to be shipped in June. Would you also like to have a Nintendo Switch for PC games?
